1. Acceptance of Terms

By downloading, installing, or using the CaseMapper mobile application ("the App"), you agree to be bound by these Terms & Conditions. If you do not agree to these terms, please do not download, install, or use the App.

CaseMapper is developed by Mohsin Khawaja, under the Center for Security & Information Behavior (CSIB).

2. Use License and App Purpose

CaseMapper is a professional, offline-first GIS and map documentation utility intended to allow users to record geographic coordinates, attach field photographs, and generate standard KMZ/KML packages for spatial visualization (e.g., in Google Earth).

You are granted a non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable license to use the App on compatible Android devices. You agree to use the App solely for lawful purposes and in compliance with all local, state, national, and international laws.

3. User Data Ownership & Storage Responsibility

Strictly Offline Execution: CaseMapper does not store, backup, or synchronize your data to any cloud servers or developer systems. All database records, coordinates, files, and photographs remain stored exclusively in the private sandboxed storage of your physical device.

  • Data Security: You are the sole custodian of your case documents, survey points, and photo logs. The developer cannot recover, access, or restore your data if your device is lost, damaged, stolen, or if the app is uninstalled.
  • Uninstall Warning: Uninstalling CaseMapper from your Android device will permanently and irretrievably erase all local databases and photographs associated with the app.
  • Export Backup: It is your responsibility to periodically export your cases as KMZ/KML files and secure backups on separate systems.

4. Device Permissions We Request

To perform its core offline GIS features, CaseMapper requests several runtime permissions. By using the App, you consent to these permissions as explained below:

  • Location Services (Fine/Coarse Location): Used exclusively to acquire GPS coordinates when capturing a map point or adding evidence markers.
  • Camera: Used exclusively to capture site photographs to bundle into your local case packages.
  • Internet Access: Used for loading optional online map tiles, querying updates, and displaying non-intrusive advertisements.
  • Storage Access: Used only when required by specific Android API versions to write, save, and share KML/KMZ archives in your public downloads directory.

5. Advertisements & Monetization

To support ongoing updates and maintenance, CaseMapper contains Google AdMob SDK integrations to display advertisements. AdMob may utilize your advertising ID and general region for serving non-intrusive advertisements. By using the App, you acknowledge and agree to this ad display model.

6. Disclaimer of Warranties

THE APP IS PROVIDED "AS IS" AND "AS AVAILABLE" WITHOUT WARRANTY OF ANY KIND, EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO THE WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, OR NON-INFRINGEMENT.

We do not warrant that the coordinates displayed, calculated, or logged by the App will be 100% accurate, error-free, or meet absolute forensic standards under all operating conditions. High-precision GPS fixes are subject to hardware limitations, environment shielding, and satellite availability.

7. Limitation of Liability

TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY APPLICABLE LAW, IN NO EVENT SHALL THE DEVELOPER (MOHSIN KHAWAJA) OR CSIB BE LIABLE FOR ANY DIRECT, INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, OR EXEMPLARY DAMAGES, INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO LOSS OF DATA, DEVICE FAILURE, REVENUE LOSS, OR ACCIDENTAL EXPOSURE OF DATA, ARISING OUT OF OR IN CONNECTION WITH YOUR USE OR INABILITY TO USE THE APP.

8. Changes to Terms

We reserve the right to modify these terms at any time. Changes will be reflected by updating the "Last Updated" date at the top of this document. Your continued use of the App following any changes constitutes your acceptance of the revised Terms & Conditions.

9. Governing Law

These terms shall be governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of India, without regard to its conflict of law principles. Any legal disputes arising hereunder shall be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of Jammu, Jammu & Kashmir, India.
